The Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) investigation into the allegation that ‘whistle-blowers’ were incentivised to provide evidence to the McGrail Inquiry “has not uncovered any evidence that meets the threshold for criminal prosecution for Misconduct in Public Office.”
The Governor today presented nine soldiers from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment with their Operation Service Medal Afghanistan. The ceremony for the soldiers and their families was held in Grand Battery House.

During the month of January. The Royal Gibraltar Police carried out an extensive enforcement action to counter tobacco related illicit activities in Gibraltar and by the Frontier. The clamp down resulted in 20 arrests for the possession of a Commercial Quantity of Tobacco, 3 arrests for the concealment of tobacco in public and 4 arrests for exporting a commercial quantity of tobacco. The arrests came about in sixteen different incidents.
On Wednesday evening at the Caleta Hotel we were treated to the first of four Master Classes planned for this year's Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival. Two players shared duties at the commentary desk: Elisabeth Paehtz (Germany's top female player) and England's Nigel Short.
Both chose to show their games from that afternoon. Elisabeth very nearly beat elite grandmaster Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine); in the end the number 5 seed, here in Gibraltar for the first time, escaped with a draw.
