The Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) investigation into the allegation that ‘whistle-blowers’ were incentivised to provide evidence to the McGrail Inquiry “has not uncovered any evidence that meets the threshold for criminal prosecution for Misconduct in Public Office.”
Two further Gibraltar Defence Police dog handlers have just completed their training, bringing the Force’s patrol dog section into full operation. PCs Brandon Avellano and ‘Scotty’ Diani are now part of the six-strong team following their successful completion of an intensive 9 week course delivered by Sergeant Andy Gaunt, who is currently seconded to the GDP from the UK.
Sergeant Gaunt said, ‘I have been very impressed by the enthusiasm and ability of these two officers. They have responded well to the training and are now fully accredited police dog handlers.’
Bayside school’s SEN (Special Educational Needs) department held an open morning to display work done by students following the ASDAN course. ASDAN stands for Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network and is a recognised qualification in the UK. The students have worked extremely hard to gain enough credits for the Bronze Award.
‘This year has been hard work but the results speak for themselves. The boys have taken pride in their work and they will be given their well-deserved certificates in August,’ said Melba Noguera, Special Educational Needs Coordinator at Bayside School.
Three men and a woman were recently arrested by Customs Officers in the vicinity of Europa Advance Road. The 23 year old local woman was stopped in the area and arrested after the search of the vehicle she was driving resulted in the detection of 13,600 cigarettes (68 cartons) concealed within the tyres.
A 26 year old Spanish national resident in San Roque was arrested shortly thereafter when a search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of 10,980 cigarettes (55 cartons) similarly concealed within the tyres.
Tony Kirkham, head of arboretum at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the UK's leading authority on tree planting, will be meeting with local horticulturists and tree enthusiasts this afternoon at the Garrison Library to talk about tree planting and tree care.
