Local viewers of last night’s BBC 2 Top Gear episode were disappointed to find that, although part of the programme was filmed in Gibraltar, the presenters made no mention of where they were. The episode opened with various shots of the Rock with Rule Britannia playing in the background.
Marking the 300th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, along with Dr. Garcia, the Deputy Chief Minister, this weekend printed their own version of the document as a museum open day commemorating the anniversary.
This week the Government has insisted that the Treaty is ‘hopelessly out of date’ and it ‘cannot be used 300 years after its signature as a means to deny the people of Gibraltar their right to self-determination and decolonisation’.
John Porter, the virtuoso jazz pianist who regularly played at the Eliott Hotel jazz sessions, sadly passed away last week. He was the first jazz pianist to come to play at the jazz sessions organized by George Posso in 1999.
Mr Posso said: “John was a great inspiration for all local musicians, the loss has touched all musicians and friends who knew him.”
