Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Diego Cañamero, a spokesman for the Sindicato Andaluz de Trabajadores (SAT) has reportedly announced that he and his supporters aim to occupy Gibraltar on the 29th August at 11am as a protest against “tax havens” and the British military presence on the Rock.
This morning a service of commemoration and remembrance on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of world war 1 was hosted in John Mackintosh square, bringing together leaders and members of all of Gibraltar’s religious denominations to pay tribute to those who served in the war.
An Expert Group Meeting on ‘Higher Education for Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean’ started this morning at the Caleta Hotel. The two-day event will see the attendance of over 20 experts from across a spectrum of Mediterranean countries and various United Nations agencies including UNESCO, UNECE and UNEP.
Over 120 delegates from sectors across Gibraltar returned to school at the Sunborn on 15th July for a professional development event and drinks reception designed to help attendees stay abreast of the many regulatory and legislative developments taking place over the course of 2014.
