European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
Standing in as Chief Minister whilst Fabian Picardo and Dr. Joseph Garcia address the UN Delegation of 24 in New York this week, Minister for Equality and Social Services Samantha Sacramento this morning arrived at No.6 Convent Place, where she will work from until the Chief Minister returns on Thursday.
Commenting to YGTV on how she feels about being appointed acting Chief Minister, Minister Sacramento explained that it is ‘an absolute privilege to be able to have this experience’. Speaking on how she felt when she was asked to take on the task, Minister Sacramento added, ‘it was a very humbling moment when we discussed it.’
After further assessment of the weather conditions, the specialist teams involved in the lowering and subsequent transportation of the Sunborn floating hotel have decided to postpone the operation until tomorrow morning.
The PDP deeply regrets the latest escalation in the dispute over our territorial waters which occurred yesterday and was marked by the entry and presence of the Spanish warship P 64 Tarifa into our waters off the Eastern side of the Rock which continued for over 45 minutes. This is a serious further challenge to the sovereignty of our waters.
Only last week the PDP reminded the Government that Gibraltarians should not continue to be subjected to regular humiliation and the party has repeatedly encouraged the Government to impress on the British Foreign Office the importance of ensuring that the Governor has the necessary assets to enable him to fulfil his constitutional role namely the Defence of our sovereign territory. It is vital that the rule of law is not undermined throughout Gibraltar (including in its waters) and that our enforcement agencies including the RGP are able to carry out their role.
The Sunborn floating hotel was unable to be lowered into the sea to commence its journey into Gibdock in the early hours of this morning. Although the complex operation was due to start at 6:30am, the weather conditions were judged to be less than ideal and the scheduled lowering into the sea from its transportation vessel was postponed until 9:30am.
