European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
Customs Officials, the Royal Gibraltar Police and the Gibraltar Defence Police have together launched a contraband-control operation with an aim to combat illicit activity both overland and by sea.
The operation is primarily directed at unlawful cigarette exportation but includes other related aspects of criminal activity including unlawful entry to the jurisdiction, the attempted import or export of controlled substances or merchandise and the anti-social behaviour deriving from these activities.
Following a protracted investigation by officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, two men today appeared at the Magistrates Court answering to charges in relation to a robbery which took place in the area of Devil’s Gap Steps on the 4th of September of 2013.
Peter James Macias, aged 29, of Road to the Lines and Ryan Cattini, aged 20, of Ince House, Moorish Castle Estate, were today jointly charged with one count of Robbery. The two men were arrested for the offence on the 12th of September 2013.
