Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Below follows the Chief Minister's adress to the United Nations General Assembly Special Political & Decolonisation Committee:
Mr Chair,
It is an honour to address you.
I am here as the directly elected political representative of the people of Gibraltar.
Because the People of Gibraltar undoubtedly enjoy the inalienable right of self-determination under international law.
And in accordance with international law and your obligations to the People of Gibraltar, our decolonisation must be achieved exclusively through the application of the principle of self determination.
This afternoon the Captain of the Port briefed the Recovery Coordination Group, chaired by the Minister for the Port Vijay Daryanani, on the latest developments over the weekend regarding the OS 35.
