Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Newly commissioned officer Captain Julian Valverde handed over his pacing stick to WO1 Dean Castrey who is the new Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.
Captain Valverde, who has served 21 years in the Regiment, has been the RSM for the past 11 months. He was recently selected for a Late Entry Commission and his new post within the Regiment will be as Officer Commanding Headquarters Company.
Gibraltar Cultural Services is once again holding a competition to select a Logo for the Gibraltar Spring Festival 2015.
The competition is open to all ages. Entrants may submit up to two original works. Entries must be submitted in an A4 size on paper or card, indicating whether the orientation is ‘portrait’ or ‘landscape’.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo is set to pay Northern Ireland an official visit. Although the Government has insisted that no dates have been confirmed, the UK Representative for the Gibraltar Government, Albert Poggio, is currently visiting his birth town of Ballymena in preparation for the Chief Minister’s trip.
We are still Learning From Auschwitz. Here is what I took from the experience and how I think we can continue to prevent violence and injustice in Gibraltar as a community and as part of a wider Europe and stand in solidarity with freedom seekers and the ideals of equality.
