Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Saturday kicked off the third day of the 20th Commonwealth Games competition, with Team Gibraltar participating once more in swimming and squash, as well as shooting.
Shooters Jonathan Patron and Louis Baglietto participated in the 10m Air Pistol event, registering a 555 to finish in 20th place and a 546 to finish at 23rd.
The new website of the Gibraltar National Archives has logged over two thousand hits from 10 countries in its first week of operation.The website (www.nationalarchives.gi) allows users to search the lists and registers of population of Gibraltar from 1777 to 1914. It also includes a list of people who remained in Gibraltar after it was captured in 1704. This searchable material has proved to be a very popular feature.
Last year the Gibraltar public chose Simon, Matt, Ricky, Guy & Philip of This Side Up to perform on the Main Stage at the Gibraltar Music Festival. This year, the festival’s organisers are keen to try out the same idea and are once again asking the public which local act would they most like to see on the Main Stage. This is billed as a “great opportunity” for performers to rub shoulders with global stars like The Script, Rita Ora and John Newman.
The annual Gibraltar Regatta was held this weekend. Two days of racing saw competitors sail around the Rock and back with the second day dedicated to racing around the cans.
