Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Last year the Gibraltar public chose Simon, Matt, Ricky, Guy & Philip of This Side Up to perform on the Main Stage at the Gibraltar Music Festival. This year, the festival’s organisers are keen to try out the same idea and are once again asking the public which local act would they most like to see on the Main Stage. This is billed as a “great opportunity” for performers to rub shoulders with global stars like The Script, Rita Ora and John Newman.
The annual Gibraltar Regatta was held this weekend. Two days of racing saw competitors sail around the Rock and back with the second day dedicated to racing around the cans.
A new podcast giving information on the second phase of beach improvements recorded by Minister for Tourism, Neil Costa, and the Minister for Equality, Social Services and the Elderly Samantha Sacramento, will be posted in the Ministry of Transport website later today. The podcast features the deployment of jellyfish nets that will help minimise stinging incidents that have been prevalent in beaches in the past, and also the provision of specialised equipment that will enable persons with reduced mobility to have access to the beach and be able to enjoy swimming facilities as well.
The Government and Unite the Union say they are happy to announce that they have reached an agreement to form a joint working group to discuss the future strategy of the Gibraltar Development Corporation (GDC).
