With two weeks until the deadline for by-election candidates to put their names forward, PDP leader Nick Cruz today made the formal announcement to the press, that he would indeed be standing on behalf of the Progressive Democratic Party.
Despite the party’s disappointment in the 2007 and 2011 General Elections, they feel positively towards this by-election as it allows for a completely free vote, void of any sense of tribal or block voting. Mr. Cruz insisted that the main pitch he could put across to the electorate is that 'this is a fantastic opportunity to introduce constructive politics in to Parliament, which historically has been difficult to do given the nature of block voting and that tribalism that Mr. Caruana and Mr. Bossano have endeared historically. He added that neither the GSLP Alliance, nor the GSD will be adversely affected if their candidate is not elected.'
Equality Rights Group, the GGR has today unveiled the design for the group’s official diversity flag. A spokesman for the group noted that the design has been worked on for some time. They added, ‘in this important year for the LGB community – and ahead of Gibraltar's first-ever Pride Day, details of which are yet to be announced – we feel it is the appropriate moment to make public the flag which the group will be using henceforth as a symbol of Gibraltarian unity in diversity.’
The flag incorporates the traditional rainbow coloured element, that has long been associated with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual community and signifies diversity across all of society, with Gibraltar’s Castle and key symbol.
The comments by the Opposition regarding the Board of GBC shows both that they are suffering from selective amnesia and that they do not know what they are talking about.
Mr Feetham may not be aware that the procedure followed in the appointment of this Board, with respect to consultation, is exactly the same procedure that was used by Mr Caruana when he was Chief Minister. It is quite incredible and more than a little hypocritical that the Opposition should now complain about the mechanics of a process of consultation that they institutionalised when they were in office.
