Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
On Friday afternoon the first Gibraltar Medallions of Honour and Distinction ceremony was held aboard the Sunborn hotel. The reception was attended by many key figures in the community as well as friends and family of the recipients.
The GSD says it has cautiously welcomed the British Government’s recent announcement that it had reached an “agreement in principle to the terms for talks and are discussing with both the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Gibraltar how and when talks can be organised.” The Leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham also added that “above all, however, we wish the Government every success in these talks. Party politics is one thing but the future of this community is far more important”.
