Oct 04 - A 20,000 KM Journey on a 125 cc Motorbike – London to Johannesburg for Help for Heroes

help for heroes Former soldier, Will Moore has embarked on a 20,000-kilometre challenge that will see him travel from London to Johannesburg on a 125 cc motorbike. In an effort to raise money for injured war soldiers through the Help for Heroes charity.

Will embarked on his solo adventure last month and is currently well on his way to stopping off in Gibraltar, where he will take the ferry to Tangier and continue his journey through impoverished African countries, as well as a large chunk of the Sahara Desert.

Oct 04 - Looking to Enter the Gibraltar Drama Festival 2014?

govtThe Ministry of Culture has today announced that the Gibraltar Drama Festival will take place at the Ince’s Hall Theatre between Monday 17th March and Saturday 22nd March 2014.

The Festival is open to any drama group and will be of a competitive nature, with adjudication. For the Best Play there will be a main prize of £1,000 plus a trophy. Additional awards include: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Player and Best Young Performer, amongst others. Non-competitive entries will also be accepted.

Oct 04 - Unite Works with Spanish Unions Over Spain Dispute

newsSpanish and Gibraltarian unions are joining forces to call on the Gibraltar, Spanish and regional governments to enter dialogue and end the provocation and confrontation in the row over fishing rights and the imposition of beefed-up border checks.

Unite, CCOO (Comissiones Obreras) and UGT (Union General de Trabajadores)  met today to further discuss the impact of the current border dispute on working people from Spain and Gibraltar. Around 10,000 Spanish and 2000 other EU workers cross the border from Spain to Gibraltar to work each day.

Oct 04 - Unite Meets with Union Members Over Barclays Shutdown

uniteWith Barclays’ recent news of a retail shutdown in Gibraltar a selection of meetings has been held between staff and members of Unite the Union. Representative for the Union, Christian Duo today thanked Chief Minister Fabian Picardo for meeting with a Unite delegation at such short notice. He added that the meetings proved ‘extremely positive’ with both parties agreeing to work in partnership to try and save jobs and secure Gibraltar’s community retail banking needs.
