Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Mr. Speaker, today I have been asked by the Leader of the Opposition, to draw together some of the themes that we have highlighted in this year’s debate and respond, where relevant, to some of the speeches from the Government side.
This is my thirteenth address to this House in what is known as the Budget Debate and I wish to commence with sports-related matters by saying that I am a firm believer in unity, where possible, for the benefit of Gibraltar’s greater interests.
Mr Speaker, the 23rd of last month was the 49th anniversary of my election to this House. On the 10th, I had my 82nd birthday and GBC made a point of congratulating me as a news item, which I appreciate very much.
