Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The whole of Gibraltar suffered another power cut at around 9:45 this morning. Power was slowly being restored to different areas an hour later but many shops on Main Street simply shut their doors as they were unable to serve customers. Electronics retailer Galaxy and BHS Home are just two of the businesses that ceased trading entirely during the blackout.
The Government welcomes the summoning to the Foreign Office of the Spanish Ambassador to the United Kingdom in order to protest about the actions of a Spanish naval vessel in the proximity of Gibraltar yesterday.
The GSD has taken note of the UK Government’s recent extensive Cabinet shuffle, acknowledging the work done by the outgoing Foreign Secretary, William Hague. The party goes on to wish Mr. Hague all the best in his new role as Leader of the House of Commons ‘and in the future when he leaves Parliament after the next General Election’.
