Mar 26 - HMS Dragon Embarks on its Maiden Voyage to the Middle East

hms dragonAppearing majestically amidst the grey mass of cloud and sea, Type 45 Destroyer, HMS Dragon docked in at Gibraltar yesterday morning for the crew’s first overnight stay on their Maiden voyage to the Middle East, where the vessel is set to carry out anti terrorist operations.

The vessel’s prime role is Air Defence, in order to protect the UK National and allied forces against enemy aircraft and missiles. She is fitted with the UK variant of the world-leading Principal Anti-Air Missile System which includes the UK designed Sampson multi functional radar. The radar includes a feature that allows for those on the bridge to see a 3D image of the entire ship; it is also capable of scanning the surrounding area.

Mar 26 - FSC Publishes Guide on Payment Services

fscThe FSC yesterday published a guide aimed at helping consumers understand the different aspects of payment services, which are covered under the Payment Services Directive. This Directive was transposed into local legislation via the Financial Services (EEA) (Payment Services) Regulations 2010.

The guide provides information for consumers on the payment services industry. It advises consumers about important matters to consider and areas to look out for when carrying out transactions with a payment services institution.

Mar 25 - GHA to Offer Nurse Training Once More

ghaAfter many years, the Gibraltar Health Authority will once again be offering training opportunities for all its nurses, which will allow Nursing Assistants to be able to attain the grade of Enrolled Nurse and Registered Nurse locally.

Training to Enrolled Nurse was done away with some years ago. With nurse registration in UK becoming degree-only, it left those, usually young, nurses who did not have A-levels unable to progress in their careers or in their nurse training.
