Sep 18 - Garcia Opens Calpe Conference 2014
Speaking at the opening of the Calpe Conference this morning, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Garcia touched heavily upon the bid for Gibraltar’s Neanderthal caves as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is set to be submitted in January. He noted that the conference, which includes lectures on World Heritage, and its competitive advantage, and how a study of our ancestors can enhance our modern society, ‘bring together leaders in their respective fields of human evolution and world heritage, two apparently disparate fields which are being brought together in this forum.’
This weekend saw the repair of the stone finial and weather vane of the old dockyard clock tower in a project financed by Government but managed by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust.
Gibraltar’s “Monkey Hill” features in a list of the world’s filthiest tourist spots compiled by the Italian daily newspaper, La Repubblica, and posted on its website.
The Mayor Adolfo Canepa will be conferring six Mayor’s Awards at a special Ceremony to be held at City Hall.
