European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
Dr Liesl Torres, Principal Secretary of the Department of the Environment, along with Dr. Keith Bensusan, head of the Strait of Gibraltar Bird Observatory is currently representing Gibraltar this week at a conference on Biodiversity Conservation in the UK Overseas Territories. The meeting is being held in London at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
The event is being attended by a number of NGOs, UK Government departments and representatives from most of the Overseas Territories, including Monserrat, the Cayman Islands and St. Helena, some of whom, Drs Torres and Bensusan have worked with in the past.
Customs Officials recently arrested three people in two separate incidents. The first involved a fifteen-year-old local resident who was found to be carrying 16 grams of cannabis resin as he walked through the Frontier. The boy appeared before the Magistrates Court and was sentenced to a £300 fine.
A Comic Relief Cake Sale, held at RAF Gibraltar yesterday, raised £150 in aid of the Red Nose Day Charity. Steph Ball of the Met Office organised the event with her colleagues Katrina and Heloise of Air Traffic Control.
