Questioning the Chief Minister on the Sunborn Floating Hotel project in Parliament this afternoon, Opposition member for the Environment Jaime Netto asked whether the Government had carried out an extensive Environmental Impact Assessment of the area and whether consideration had been taken into the habitat of the endangered Spider crab and the Ribbed Mediterranean Limpet.
The Chief Minister insisted that an EIA was being carried out, and divers were currently surveying the area and moving any spider crabs found, to another maintained area. He added that silt curtains would be implemented in the dredged areas of the marina that contain limpets. Answering a separate question, Mr. Picardo noted that thus far, the Government had spent £137,440 on the project.
Stage One has today announced that La Voz sensation; Maika will perform at this Year’s Miss Gibraltar Pageant, to be held at the John Mackintosh Hall on Saturday 8th June. Maika recently launched her first single ‘En tus Manos’, which has soared to number one across a spectrum of digital platforms including iTunes and Spotify.
Commenting on Maika’s performance at the show, Producer James Neish noted, we are very excited with this show and the addition of Maika to the line-up reflects a commitment to do something very different, fresh and dynamic. Together with the already strong local cast announced (This Side Up and Chloe Martinez), Sky news presenter Paula Middlehurst as my co-host and more still to be revealed we are sure it will be a great show.’
A number of teenagers participating in this year’s Luce Foundation Programme last week trekked up Mediterranean Steps with Rebecca Figueras of the Youth Service. The outing incorporated team building and familiarisation with the aim of developing and improving relationships between peers and youth workers involved. Trevor Garcia of Bayside School, along with RGP Officers Kenny Kamara and Dani Wink accompanied the group on their hike.
