European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
Unite the Union, the Workers Commission (CCOO) and Union General de Trabajadores (U.G.T.) are considering an offer made by Izquierda Unida's Euro MP, Willy Meyer, to pass on their concerns over the effects of Frontier restrictions on ordinary working class citizens, to the European Employment Commission.
Union Officials from both sides of the border handed Mr. Meyer their manifesto detailing their position on the negative repercussions the conflict has had upon workers.
In a bid to educate the public on Recycling in Gibraltar, the Department of the Environment’s technical staff, Janine Galliano, Sera Fromow and Jonathan Kay hosted an awareness day down at the piazza this morning.
This morning, Environment Minister Dr John Cortes welcomed a delegation of local and Overseas Territories representatives to a conference discussing Geographical Information Systems in UK Overseas Territories.
Highlighting the significance of GIS, Dr. Cortes insisted that mapping had been around for centuries, with the practice of using maps to understand spatial patterns not covering anything new. He added that GIS plays a critical role in the management of both the natural and urban environment, and benefits organizations of all sizes both in the private and public sector.
This Saturday, the Gibraltar Multiple Sclerosis Society will host an awareness day, with stands to be manned in the Piazza, Casemates Square and opposite the Convent. The flag day will run from 10:30 am to 2:30pm with patients, carers and society supporters available to hand out leaflets and talk to individuals who wish to know more about the society or the condition.
