The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

The GSD has today said that the media reports that at the beginning of this year the Government signed contracts with MAN Diesel & Turbo for the provision of six engines for the LNG power station to be built "barely 300 meters away" from Waterport Terraces and not much further from Harbour Views, “demonstrates that the Government has been hell bent on proceeding with the project even without the relevant safety reports being in place.” The GSD also points out that in addition to the contract for the engines with MAN Diesel and Turbo, the Government had also already signed contracts with Bouygues Energies & Services SAS for the construction of the power station.
