Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Equality Rights Group has sent its congratulations to Nadine and Alicia Muscat on the occasion of their civil partnership, the first to be celebrated in Gibraltar. Nadine changed her surname by deed poll recently to adopt her partner’s name.
In response to the Opposition’s recent statement on public finances the Government has insisted that the undeniable fact is that they ‘were right to highlight to the public the level of borrowing of over half a billion pounds at the time of the election, given the size of the economy then and the rules on borrowing as well as the hidden hole of one hundred million pounds in company liabilities.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association of Trust and Company Managers saw the election of new Chairman, Nick Cruz, with marc Ellul having completed his 3-year term. Mr. Cruz thanked the outgoing chairman for his sterling work and ‘ the considerable achievements of ATCOM under his leadership, which include the chairmanship of a committee to study a much needed revamp of the Companies Act, the result of which can be seen in the new Company’s Act, which is making its way through Parliament.
