European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
In a joint statement issued yesterday, 36 jurisdictions including Gibraltar committed themselves to early adoption of the Common Reporting Standard for automatic exchange of information being developed in the OECD.
‘Tax evasion is a global problem and requires a global solution, removing the hiding places for those who would seek to evade their legal obligations,” says the statement by the 36 countries and territories who pledge to “strongly support the development of the single global standard for automatic exchange of information between tax authorities’.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo was this evening unable to deliver a lecture at the University of Cadiz as a result of serious public order issues which led to him being advised that his personal security could not be guaranteed by law enforcement.
Officers of HM Customs on duty at Eastern Beach came under attack by a group of men from the Spanish beach north of the frontier fence at 15:00 today. The group attempted to enter Gibraltar unlawfully but were deterred by the number of HM Customs Officers who responded to the situation from several out-stations.
