European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
This year's Childline Gibraltar Annual Treasure Hunt was won by the French Synchronised Swimming Team, aka Natwest Bank, led by Karen Duncan. In second place were a very creditable Leeds Building Society with Savills Estate Agents in third place.
This weekend pressure group, the Defenders of Gibraltar responded to a number of threats imposed by Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo in Spanish media reports.
A statement released by the group notes, ‘This beautiful Sunday morning, I woke up to an influx in Spanish Media reports with information concerning Spanish Foreign Minister Margallo's future plans for Gibraltar. Given the seemingly ad-hoc and clumsy nature of undoubtedly Spain's worst Foreign Minister ever, I thought I'd have a deeper look at what it entailed and its feasibility.
Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar notes the publication of various belligerent and threatening news reports in the Spanish media over the weekend, culminating in an interview with the Foreign Secretary of the Kingdom of Spain, Jose Maria Margallo with Spanish newspaper ABC.
The statements are clearly made in ill-thought out defiance of the requests made of Spain by the United Kingdom when the Spanish Ambassador was called into the Foreign Office in London last Friday.
