Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Last night the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, was in contact with Algeciras Mayor, Sñr José Ignacio Landaluce, to offer any help from Gibraltar which might have been of assistance. Contact was also established with Junta Vice-President Sñr. Jimenez Barrios.
The Government has welcomed the call by three senior Spanish politicians for Spain, the UK and Gibraltar to engage in dialogue. This call has been made public in a joint statement issued by former senior Spanish politicians Pepe Carracao, Rafael Roman and Salvador de la Encina.
In his recent Budget speech Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, Albert Isola stated that there was shortly to be a full consultation – open to the general public - on the merits of a central register of beneficial ownership. Such a consultation would also pose the question as to whether such a register should be public or otherwise.
