rotary clubDuring the Rotary Club’s annual Presidents’ dinner held at the Rock Hotel recently, the presidency was handed over by Jennifer Stentiford to Lyana Armstrong-Emery.

The evening was inaugurated by a fanfare played by Band Sargeant, Mark Alcantara, Bugler from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment dressed in full regalia. The event was attended by Health and Environment Minister Dr. John Cortes, as well as Reverand Scott Brown and maria Vasquez of the San Pedro Rotary Club.

Jul 15 - 1.82 Million Viewers Tune in to Gibraltar: Britain in the Sun

newsGibraltar is slowly rising to the heights of becoming a household conversational topic in 1.32 million homes around the UK. The Channel 5 commissioned eight-part programme, Gibraltar: Britain in the Sun was last week counted as the 10th most watched programme on the channel.

The series has opened up the country to such famed local personalities as Gibraltar Chronicle photographer, Johnny Bugeja and Head of Ape management, Dr. Eric Shaw and is pulling in fairly mixed reviews. Online blogs have criticised the show for being ‘slow-moving’ with ‘unnecessarily drawn out story lines’.

Jul 15 - Supply Of Sand For Initial Beach Regeneration At Sandy Bay

Over the last few weeks, the Spanish media have carried several stories relating to the supply of sand to Gibraltar.

As part of an initial beach regeneration project at Sandy Bay, HMGOG entered into a contract with Van Oord (Gibraltar) Ltd on the 19th April 2013 for the supply and placing on the beach of 10,000 tonnes of sand.

Van Oord (Gibraltar) Ltd was to supply sand from the area of Valdevaqueros in Tarifa where, as a result of high winds, sand from the dunes in the area had been blown on to adjacent roads, effectively cutting these off to the public. This sand was being removed by the authorities there and disposed of. At no time has HMGOG any knowledge of sand being removed from the beach.
