Jul 12 - Police Promotions

Commissioner of Police Mr Eddie Yome CPM is pleased to announce promotions to the rank of Inspector and Sergeant.

The following officers have been promoted:

Inspector Thomas Tunbridge joined the service in 1998 and has served in various departments. Early in his career he served as a Community Constable, then as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Department and also in the Financial Crime Unit. He has also been deployed as a sergeant in uniformed policing.

Jul 12 - Governor Awards Visiting Scout Group Leaders

scoutsAs part of the Midlothian Scout Group’s visit to Gibraltar this week, scouts, Kirsty Harrison and Peter Hyde were awarded their Wood Badge by acting Governor, Her Excellency Alison MacMillan. Kirsty completed her leadership training in order to become a Beaver Scout Leader, whilst Peter now qualifies as an Explorer Scout Leader.

The scout group, who hail from Scotland, have spent the past week in Gibraltar touring the Rock and visiting the Gibraltar Sea Scouts at their base.

Jul 12 - Commonwealth Park Soil Manufactured Locally

Commonwealth Park needs about 3000m3 of soil for planting of trees and shrubs.

Under normal circumstances this would have been imported from Spain. Some issues arise with that on a scheme of this size, namely: the quantities, quality and consistency of the material cannot be guaranteed; there are doubts as to the environmental impact of the extraction process in Spain, especially given the current lull in construction activity; the possibility of delays and issues at the border, as with any other material and the transport operation equates to 150 journeys by heavy lorry from potentially far afield, with their consequent carbon impact.
