European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
As a result of the strategic review announced by RBS at the end of February, up to 15 jobs could potentially be lost at the NatWest bank in Gibraltar. RBS trades as NatWest in Gibraltar and the move is part of a wider drive to make the banking giant a “smaller, simpler and smarter bank that puts the needs of its customers at its core.”
The Defenders of Gibraltar have expressed their “complete rejection” of what it calls “Spain's latest brainwave” regarding the issuing of passes for cross-frontier workers. The group believes that the frontier pass system would be “inherently discriminatory” towards Gibraltarian and other nationalities residing in Gibraltar, as well as a “dubious cover” for gaining information on individuals who cross that frontier. The Defenders say they assume that such information would be gathered in order to continue a campaign of intimidation.
The GSD has today committed itself to reversing any decision to site a National Football Stadium at Europa Point, whether it obtains planning permission or not.
A reception was held last night at the City Hall hosted by the Deputy Mayor. The event was for the visiting international delegation that was in Gibraltar for the Sustainability conference.
