Nov 18 - Gibraltar Cheerleaders to Compete at UK National Winter Championships

cheerleadersThe Gibraltar Cheerleading Association’s National Squad will be competing at the UK National Cheerleading Association Winter Championships in Manchester on 23 & 24Nov, in their first competition abroad. Team Gibraltar whose ages range from 5 to 13 will be leaving on Friday 22nd November

The squad will participate in the Group Stunting, Street Cheer Group and Street Cheer Freestyle categories.

Nov 18 - Not Enough Government Housing – Claims GSD

gsdThe GSD has welcomed the commencement of the Government’s Affordable Housing Scheme that will see 564 apartments built at the Aerial farm site and a further 380 flats at the Coach Park. The GSD has, however, claimed that these homes will go up for sale, providing little consolation for those on the Government Housing Waiting List.

The Opposition notes, ‘as at September 2013 there were 1,651 applicants on the Housing Waiting List plus a further 394 on the pre-list.  This brings a combined grand total of 2,045 applicants. These applicants are too numerous for all to be offered an opportunity to purchase their own home, even if they so desire and can afford it.

Nov 18 - Youngsters Raise Youth Club and GBC Open Day Funds

youth charity funds A small group of Youngsters, who regularly attend the Plater and Dolphins Youth Clubs held a cake stall and raffle recently to raise funds for the ongoing programme of events at their respective youth clubs.

This fund raising activity is part of the young peoples’ efforts to meet the costs of taking part in a residential course at the Europa Retreat Centre later this month. It also provides those taking part in this project with the opportunity of working together as a team.

Nov 18 - Opposition to Press for Credit Finance Answers in Parliament

parliamentThe Opposition will press the Government for details of the activities of Credit Finance Company Limited in Thursday’s Parliament session. All of the GSD’s oral questions will be centred around Credit Finance and the money invested in it by the Gibraltar Savings Bank.

Commenting on the matter Opposition Leader Daniel Feetham insisted that the Government, who pledged to be the most transparent in ‘our political history’ has thus far refused to answer questions on the company’s loans and investments ‘despite the fact that it is using £344 million of savers’ and taxpayers’ monies, backed up by a guarantee from the taxpayer’.
