Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Royal Gibraltar Police has received several reports from persons that have received e-mails that appear to be a Tax Rebate from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and requesting to ‘verify’ personal details in order to process their payment. This email directs victims to a web page via an included hyperlink. Following this link and entering personal details risks exposing personal details to fraudsters and having personal details sold on to other organised criminal groups.
Following an agreement with the Government of Gibraltar announced this week, the £45m, World Trade Center Gibraltar project is expected to break ground in the first half of 2014 and be ready for occupation by the end of 2015.
The Government says that the Opposition has “once again tried its hand at scaremongering and distorting of facts” by claiming that Social Services are down by eight members of staff, explaining that this is “simply not the case.” The Government says the Opposition would be more responsible in discharging its duties if, at the very least, it attempted to seek clarification from the relevant minister before “spreading misinformation.”
HM Customs have arrested a 16 year old local youth who was found in possession of 23g of cannabis resin and 3g of herbal cannabis as he entered Gibraltar via the Land Frontier from Spain. The youth appeared in the juvenile court on Monday where he pleaded guilty and has been bailed to re-appear on Feb 28th.
