Aug 08 - Cleaning Up the Marines Monument

marine Three Royal Marines from British Forces Gibraltar have spent the afternoon cleaning up the Royal Marines Monument located in Ocean Village.

Corporal Adam Carter, Marine Josh Lunn and Marine Euan Clark from Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron all wanted to help maintain the special monument which bears their cap badge and an inscription detailing the historic link with Gibraltar.

Aug 08 - Government Confirm Smoking Ban Exemption Restricted To Casino

The Government has confirmed that the proposed exemption to the smoking ban will only apply to a small area within the Casino, measuring some 10% of the Casino floor space. In effect, it says, the small area will be glassed in with strong air extraction equipment for the locating of slot machines, and without any other service being available in the space. No food or drinks will be served and no staff will be required to enter the area whilst in use.

Aug 07 - Government Welcomes European Commission Intervention

frontier The Gibraltar Government has welcomed the intervention of the EU Commission in the problems caused by Spanish manipulation of traffic flows at the Gibraltar/Spain frontier In a statement, the Commission have recognised that the Spanish checks are disproportionate. The statement rightly reflects the Commission’s serious concern about lack of progress on the part of Spain in implementing previous recommendations, which were aimed at reducing long queues both to enter and leave Spain. The Commission statement also notes the continued high volume of complaints received from Gibraltar about long queues.
