This follows a series of irresponsible and untrue accusations made by Ministers and officials of the Spanish state against Gibraltar, which have in turn predictably been exaggerated further by certain sectors of the Spanish media and have now sparked off a climate of hatred against Gibraltarians.

Oct 01 - New Recruits Join Gibraltar Regiment

regiment recruitsTwo new recruits from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment recently passed out at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Catterick.

Private Ashley Gibbins aged 17 and Private Alex McKay aged 21 have both successfully completed their 26 week Combat Infantryman Course. All infantry soldiers in the British Army must complete the course which teaches the soldier a number of skills from war-fighting tactics through to ceremonial drill. It is designed to ensure that the newly qualified solider is fully prepared to join their chosen unit and is ready for operational deployment.

Oct 01 Seizures of Class A Drugs and Cigarettes

Two local residents were charged with the importation of cocaine over the weekend inseparate incidents.

Darren CORDON, 32, was arrested on Friday night after 0.2 g of cocaine was found during a search of his vehicle as he entered Gibraltar from Spain. He failed to appear in the Magistrate’s Court today and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, officers of HM Customs arrested Ylenia GOMEZ at the Land Frontier after 0.5 g of the controlled Class A drug were found on her person. The 26 year old appeared before the Magistrate this morning and the case has been adjourned until Oct 16th.

Elsewhere, in an unrelated matter, officers of HM Customs seized two vehicles and a commercial quantity of cigarettes from two lock-up garages in the Devil’s Tower Road area.
