Apr 15 - Spring Festival Sees Local Crime Novel Launch

nepenthes As part of the Spring Festival 2013, the Minister of Culture Hon. Steven Linares will launch Nepenthes, a novel by Elena Scialtiel, at the Garrison Library on 2nd May.

Named after the tropical carnivorous plant commonly known as monkey cups, the crime novel set during a dark and stormy Halloween week, features young, savvy and feisty female Chief Inspector Kay Xiarras of Rocky Cape Police and her four-strong multi-ethnic Homicide Squad.

Apr 15 - Gib Golfer PGA EuroPro Tour Success

dan aldridge golfGibraltar based Dan Aldridge recently secured himself a spot in the final qualifying stage of the 2013 PGA EuroPro Tour finishing 2 over par over 36 holes. The tournament’s first round qualifier was held in Stoke by Nayland Essex. The final stage at Frilford Heath was to be contested over 54 holes with a cut to be made after 36 holes.  240 players completed the first part of the final stage and 120 plus ties made the cut, including Dan, to compete for a category in the 2013 PGA EuroPro Tour season.  Dan eventually finished, the 3 days, 6 over allowing him Category 11.

Apr 15 - Calentita Night Date Change

governmentThe Ministry of Culture has recently announced the change of date for the Spring Festival Calentita Night, from Friday 21st June to Saturday 22nd June 2013.

The main reason for changing the date to a Saturday is to allow Gibraltar’s Jewish community to participate in the event, either by manning a stall or simply through their attendance. This change coincides with the Government’s manifesto commitment to improve community events such as Calentita.
