The Gibraltar Museum recently hosted a visit of board members and major donors of the Leakey Foundation. Founded in 1968, it provides grants to many of the world’s major studies of human prehistory and encourages the funding of ground-breaking research. The Foundation is the only U.S. funding organization wholly committed to human origins research. Among its distinguished recipients have been Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey.
The Spanish press has this week announced the return of the European Commission delegation to the Spain/ Gibraltar Frontier following last year’s visit and the subsequent recommendations made by the expert mission.
Europa Press has insisted that the goal of the visit is for the Commission to ‘better appreciate the steps taken by Spain and the UK to implement the recommendations of the Commission, and respond to outstanding issues.’
The second Gibraltar Gibunco Literary festival was announced this morning to be held on November 14th to 16th this year. Minister for Tourism Neil Costa insisted that it was the most important festival in Gibraltar’s calendar of international events. Flanked by festival organisers Sally Dunsmore and Tony Byrne and Tourist Board CEP Nicky Guerrero, Minister Costa went on to thank the Festival’s main sponsor, Gibunco. He added that a dinner would be held at the Garrison Library this evening for potential sponsors of the event.
Today marks the UN's International Day Against Drug Abuse, aimed at highlighting the issues surrounding drug abuse and raising awareness of the dangers. This year’s theme is ‘ A message of hope; drug use disorders are preventable and treatable’.
