Jul 11 - Western Beach - Temporary Prohibition Of Bathing

Western Beach is subject to discharges of sewage from a storm water drain from La Linea. In order to monitor and provide the public with information on the quality of the bathing water the Environmental Agency samples the water 3 times a week i.e. 6 times the recommended sampling period stipulated in the EU Bathing Water directive.

The latest result taken on the 11th July 2013 has failed to meet the EU bathing water mandatory standards and Government in meeting its requirements under the Environment (Quality of Bathing Water) Regulations 2009 has therefore prohibited bathing.

Jul 11 - Momy’s Biography Launched Later This Month

A book on the life of Momy Levy will be launched later this month at the Convent. Man on the Rock: Mayor Solomon Levy and the Jews of Gibraltar is written by prolific biographer Michael Freedland and is published by Vallentine Mitchell Books. Mr Freedland is a journalist, broadcaster and author of more than 40 books. He writes regularly for The Times and The Guardian, in numerous overseas publications and he broadcasts on the BBC. Among his biographies so far are works on Leonard Bernstein, Fred Astaire and Al Jolson.

Jul 11 - Big Names Booked for Savannah Summer Festival

savannahReturning once again for its third year, the Savannah Summer Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Savannah Director Orlando Yeats has joined forces with Daniel Guerrero of Elegance Events to produce this ‘unique one day festival for the community at large to enjoy’.

The event will include a set by Ibiza Bora Bora and Sankeys resident, Oliver Lang who also performed on the outdoor terrace last year. Famous Magaluf hotspot, BCM will also be presented at the daylong event, with up and coming Dustch DJ and producer Schella performing. His recent track Dear New York reached the heights of the Electro House Beatport Main Chart & has had massive support from producers such as Tiesto, Sander van Doorn.

Jul 11 - Refund for GFA Match Spectators Following Ticket Overselling Error

gfaThe GFA has today apologised for an error during last week’s match between Gibraltar XI and Hibernian FC, that saw a number of spectators moved from the Main Stand, for which they paid £10 to sit in, to the East stand, where ticket prices had been set at £8.

The GFA insists that the error was caused by over-selling of the Main stand tickets. They noted that spectators made to sit in the east stand despite having paid Main stand prices will be refunded. The GFA will then provide information on where and when the refund can be collected.
