European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
The Gibraltar Port Authority and the Gibraltar Tourist Board are working together to demarcate Gibraltar’s beaches with a new set of buoys. These buoys are being positioned approximately 200m from the shoreline of all Gibraltar’s eastern and western beaches. Large yellow buoys are located at approximately 100m intervals with a string of smaller yellow buoys between them. Green channel buoys also mark the boat channels.
Making the most of a few days of interval between the excavations at Vanguard and Gorham’s Cave, Professor Clive Finlayson is lecturing about the work being carried out in Gibraltar at university summer courses in Spain. On Tuesday, Professor Finlayson gave the opening lecture at a summer course entitled “La Cultura en el Entorno de Gibraltar” organised by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Algeciras. Professor Finlayson spoke for an hour on the subject of “Los Neandertales en el Contexto del Estrecho” and gave a first-hand account of the research at Gorham’s and Vanguard Caves from its very origins 22 years ago. He then situated this work in a broader regional context of the Strait of Gibraltar. A session of questions and answers followed in what was a well-attended lecture which generated a great deal of interest.

Thirty-year old Spanish national Sergio MUNIZ GARRIDO of La Linea, Spain, was this morning sentenced to two weeks imprisonment suspended for six months and a £300 fine. In addition he will have to pay £734 in compensation.
