European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
Yesterday afternoon Minister for Culture, Steven Linares presented Miss Gibraltar Maroua Kharbouch and her two princesses with their prize money and clothing allowances for the year. A cheque of £1,000 was also presented to former Miss Gibraltar, Jessica Baldachino commemorating the end of her reign. Winners are awarded their prize funds in two parts in order to ensure that they carry out their duties as Miss Gibraltar. Travel expenses for the Miss World pageant are also covered by the Ministry. Maroua received the sum of £4,500, with Jamie-Lee and Stacey receiving £1,500 and £1,000 respectively.
The shooting incident involving a jet ski that was chased by the Guardia Civil in Gibraltar’s territorial waters has been widely covered by the international media. Major UK newspapers and media organisations like the BBC, The Telegraph, The Times and The Sun have featured articles on the shooting, as have ex-pat publications like The Olive Press and even Australia’s Herald Sun and the Irish Independent.
