European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
The members of the Gibraltar Police Authority (GPA) were recently invited by the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) Senior Management Team to a presentation where they set out the extent to which the targets set in their Annual Policing Plan for the year ended 31 March 2013 had been met. Having analysed the data contained in the RGP's self-assessment of the Annual Policing Plan the GPA has now, in accordance with the provisions of Section 10 of the Police Act 2006 the Gibraltar Police Authority (GPA), produced its Annual Report for the policing year in review.
In January the Government deployed temporary turbines in the North Mole in order to give Gibraltar enough capacity to cover its electricity needs. Since then, say the Government, any power cuts have not been due to lack of generating capacity but mainly due to the aging infrastructure which had not been properly maintained, a problem that is now finally being addressed.
Following this, the two old power stations in the South District have been switched off at night. The Department of the Environment has now analysed the data from two air quality monitoring stations in the South District, one at Rosia Road and another at Witham's Road.
Ministry of Culture Press Release On Mega Festival
The Ministry of Culture is pleased to announce that Brit Award-winning Emeli Sandé will be headlining this year’s Gibraltar Music Festival. Olly Murs – one of the most successful pop stars of the past decade – will also be performing at the Victoria Stadium on Saturday 7th September 2013.
Two further international acts are already confirmed: Level 42, a band with a career spanning five decades, and La Oreja de Van Gogh, a Latin Grammy- winning and Grammy-nominated Spanish pop band. More international acts will be added to the bill in the coming weeks.
On 20th June, it was announced that a child attending two nurseries in Gibraltar had been found to have tuberculosis and the GHA had begun TB testing as a precautionary measure on the persons with whom the child might have been in close contact.
GHA Infection Control Nurses have now completed the contact tracing exercise. In total, 102 children and 12 adults were identified as possible contacts in two nurseries and offered skin tests. The offer was declined by 5 parents.
