May 09 Government of Gibraltar Donates Ambulance

Government of GibraltarThe Minister for Health & the Environment, Dr John Cortes, has announced the Donation of an Ambulance to the Municipality of Oued Laou a coastal village close to Tetuan, Morocco. The donation has come about as a result of a request for assistance by the head of the village council Mayor Mohamed Melahi.

The Ambulance will be handed over to the village’s local representative in Gibraltar Mr Abel Suisi and Mr Mohamed Bentaleb. Oued Laou is situated in the Moroccan Mediterranean Coast approximately 45km south west of Tetuan. This village has a population of just over 8,400 people and its main activities are fishing and tourism.

May 09 The ‘Black Duke’ Heads Home

HMS Monmouth Type 23 frigate HMS Monmouth also known as the ‘Black Duke’ arrives in Gibraltar tomorrow following a seven month deployment to the Middle East as part of the continuous British presence in the region protecting shipping, preventing smuggling and acting to disrupt and deter piracy.

She will spend a few days here taking the opportunity to stock up on supplies and have some much needed down time before heading home to Plymouth.

Monmouth is the sixth of the Type 23 frigates and was launched by Lady Eaton in 1991 and commissioned two years later.

May 09 Broadcasting Act Amended To Protect Minors

Gibraltar Broadcasting ActThe Government of Gibraltar has today published regulations which amend section 35 of the Broadcasting Act 2012. The changes to the Act address concerns raised by the European Commission regarding the effectiveness of the current section 35 with respect to the protection of minors from on-demand audiovisual media services. As amended, section 35 will protect minors from programmes which might seriously impair their physical, mental or moral development (where content includes pornography or gratuitous violence).
