Jul 15 - Treaty of Utrecht 300th Anniversary Commemorated – Government Insists ‘it is Not a Bar to Self-Determination’

cmMarking the 300th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, along with Dr. Garcia, the Deputy Chief Minister, this weekend printed their own version of the document as a museum open day commemorating the anniversary.

This week the Government has insisted that the Treaty is ‘hopelessly out of date’ and it ‘cannot be used 300 years after its signature as a means to deny the people of Gibraltar their right to self-determination and decolonisation’.

Jul 15 - Jazz Pianist John Porter Passes Away

John Porter, the virtuoso jazz pianist who regularly played at the Eliott Hotel jazz sessions, sadly passed away last week. He was the first jazz pianist to come to play at the jazz sessions organized by George Posso in 1999.

Mr Posso said: “John was a great inspiration for all local musicians, the loss has touched all musicians and friends who knew him.”

Jul 15 - EU Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive Transposed into Gibraltar Law

albert isola In one of his primary moves as Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, Albert Isola has signed regulations transposing the EU Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) into Gibraltar Law. The legislation is set to commence on the 22nd July.

Commenting on the move, Mr. Isola noted that the legislation provides Gibraltar with an excellent opportunity and competitive advantage, which should provide for further growth in this key area of Gibraltar financial services industry.
