Jul 1 - Gettysburg Battle Anniversary Marked with Model Soldier Exhibition

battle of gettysburgMarking the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, members of the Gibraltar Model Soldiers Society, Andrew Rowbottom, Anthony Yome and Hector Zammit today unveiled a small-scale depiction of the battle, to be displayed at the Coach Park Terminal for the next week.

The battle was held between 1st and 4th July in 1863, as part of the American Civil War. The battle resulted in a Confederate retreat. The battle saw between 46,000 and 51,000 casualties and acted as a turning point for the North, as the South lost both Militarily and Politically.

July 01 - EU Funding For Gibraltar – €10.5 Million Allocated

The EU Programmes Secretariat of HM Government of Gibraltar is pleased to announce that, after extensive negotiations, a total of €10.5 million has been allocated to Gibraltar’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF) Programmes for the 2014 – 2020 programming period.

This allocation was announced last week in Westminster by the Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

July 01 - Government Says The GSD “Continues To Show A Complete Disregard For People With Alzheimer’s And Dementia”

The Government has issued the following statement:

It is incredible that the GSD are still of the opinion that they would have continued with their plans for Dementia Residential Unit at the Royal Naval Hospital site had they remained in Government.

Opposition spokesperson for Social Services, Mrs Isobel Ellul-Hammond, brazenly stated in Parliament during the course of her budget address that the GSD's plans for this place were perfectly acceptable and well within the guidelines and recommendations for NHS registered elderly homes and, had they continued in office, they would have continued with the facility as planned. She says that the single rooms measuring 9.62m2 are an accepted size for the restoration of an existing historical building.
