Jan 15 - Moving on After 29 Years with the MOD

arturoAfter 29 years of service with the MoD, Arturo Asquez was today presented with a farewell gift, by the CBF, Commodore Ian McGhie. Arturo began his career in the MOD at age of 15 when he was selected as an Apprentice Mechanic in the Dockyard. His career in the forces saw him take a job as a mechanic  and then a Boat Engineer. He eventually became one of the Adventure Training Centre Instructors at the Joint Personal Development Unit (JPSU) in 2000 where he has been ever since running Power Boat, Kayaking and Climbing Courses.

Jan 15 - Picardo Visits St. Bernard's School

chief Yesterday morning, the Chief Minister paid a visit to St Bernard’s First School where he was once a pupil. He was welcomed by the Head Teacher, Ms Denise Chiappe and they then toured the classrooms, accompanied by the Minister for Education, Gilbert Licudi, and the Director of Education, Dr Joey Britto.

In September of this year, St Bernard’s School will move into purpose-built facilities in the old St Bernard’s Hospital.

Jan 15 - Allied Health Professionals Legislation Launched

allied health professionals Yesterday saw the launch of a new law to regulate Allied Health Practitioners in Gibraltar. New legislation will see 23 professions regulated by the UK based ‘Health and Care Professions Council’, the ‘General Chiropractic Council’ and the ‘General Osteopathic Council’. Speaking at the launch, which drew in an impressive audience, Chairman of the Gibraltar Medical Registration Board Dr. Vijay Kumar explained that the process had commenced 17 years ago.
