Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo hosted a reception last night at the Liberal Democrat party conference in Glasgow. Mr Picardo was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia, Tourism Minister Neil Costa and Culture Minister Steven Linares.
Another protest was this morning hosted at the Frontier by Cadiz based Union, CSIF. The independent Union protested the negligence and disregard made by the local municipality to the Government workers, who, according to Canal Sur, are owed eight months of their salaries.
Late last week cyclists Wayne Meenagh, Lee Vivian and Harry Meenagh received a heartening welcome at the Cancer Relief Centre as they completed their 5000 km charity cycle from the Artic Circle in Norway, to Gibraltar.
15-year-old Harry was greeted by a selection of peers from his school year. The team has so far raised £15,000 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity based in the UK, the Jersey Hospice and Cancer Relief Gibraltar.
Students of Westside School that recently hosted a GCSE results party, raised £500 for AKIN’s Sierra Leone school project, which involves the charity re-building and refurbishing schools and orphanages in Sierra Leone.
The group was made up of Kelly Balestrino, Aimee Balestrino, Anna Martinez, Mollie Lyons and Ainsley Howard. Jimmy Bruzon the project co-ordinator thanked the girls and congratulated them for taking the initiative of raising funds for needy students in Sierra Leone.
