Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Minister for Social Services, Samantha Sacramento, has returned from meetings in London in connection with the review of the substance abuse rehabilitation services provided by the Care Agency. The visit was aimed at obtaining information on the latest proven methods of good practice so as to introduce them locally under the current review of the service.
The Minister met with a provider of a wide range of community-based services for people suffering from drug or alcohol related problems, held meetings with its Chief Executive and management and was also invited to site meetings at outreach facilities where she was able to meet key members of staff.
The GSD will show that the Government’s fanfare in relation to the latest employment statistics is misplaced and unjustified. The reality is much different to the pretty picture which is in the Government’s electoral interests to paint days before a by-election.
The recent Open Day held by the Gibraltar Defence Police as part of the force’s 75th Anniversary celebrations was a great success and attracted a number of visitors to the Naval Base. During the day the GDP Community Team ran a children’s competition to colour and design a poster as part of their ‘Stranger Danger’ campaign.
