Mar 19 - GGR Express Concern over EU Air Provisions Amendment

ggrReacting to recent news that EU Regulation No. 261/2004 regarding air travel compensations and services available to EU member State citizens has been amended, with the reported exclusion once more of Gibraltar airport from its provisions, Equality Rights Group GGR has contacted Sir Graham Watson in Brussels for clarification.

A statement released by the group insisted that, ‘if Gibraltarians as a whole are disadvantaged by exclusion from the Regulation, local elderly and disabled passengers stand to be the most disadvantaged in comparison to their Europe-wide counterparts'.

Mar 19 - Women’s Monument Competition Winner Represents Strength of Women in Gibraltar Through the Ages

womens monument winnerYesterday evening, Minister for Equality, Samantha Sacramento announced the winner of the Women’s Monument competition that was launched by the previous administration. The competition saw entrants design a sculpture that is set to be built on the Sundial Roundabout.

23 entries were submitted for the contest and judged by the Ministry for Culture.

Mar 19 - Feetham Meets and Greets Gibraltar Associations

gsdLeader of the Opposition, Daniel Feetham, met with committee members of the Gibraltar Women’s Association with Isobel Ellul-Hammond, Opposition Spokesman for Equality, last week to discuss concerns over the Sex Offenders’ List, ‘Sarah’s Law’ and making the register open to the public.  

Other issues raised were licences for adults working with children and vulnerable adults, codes of practice when the Police have to deal with vulnerable women and children, and whether ‘Looked after Children’ in care have assigned care workers they can build a stable relationship with.

Mar 19 - Regiment Leavers Presented with Gifts for 22 Years of Service

rgrThree members of the Regiment were presented with a leaver’s gift from Commanding Officer Colin Risso on completion of 22 years service.

WO2 Steve Kelly joined the Regiment in 1990 after serving in the TA for two years. He has been deployed to UK, Morocco, Gambia, Cyprus and Kosovo and his final job was as MTWO.  He noted, ‘thanks to everyone who has supported me in the Regiment, today is inevitable, it comes very quickly so make the most of what you have got here.’
