Chief Minister Fabian Picardo accompanied Environment Minister John Cortes on a visit to the Upper Rock last week to view works in process to improve the landscape.
The works are being carried out by Wildlife Gibraltar's Upper Rock Management Team, under contract to the Department of the Environment. The team is supervised by Reuben Senior and directed from the Botanic Gardens.
Two Spanish nationals aged both 39 & 28, were arrested for the possession of 121,000 cigarettes on Sunday afternoon.
Both La Linea residents were seen acting suspiciously at the entrance to New Harbours Industrial Estate. A search of their vehicles resulted in the detection of 121,000 cigarettes. Investigation into the matter continues; meanwhile, the men have been bailed to surrender on March 14th. Both vehicles and cigarettes were seized by Customs.
This weekend local resident, Enrique Javier Rodriguez was charged with the importation and possession of 1.6 grams of heroin, which was found concealed with his vehicle as he drove through the frontier. Mr. Rodriguez appeared before the Magistrates Court this morning, but his case was adjourned until February 28th.
The GSD will be holding a conference for all its members on Thursday 18th April at 7pm at the John Mackintosh Hall, in order to thank Mr. Caruana for his ‘absolute commitment to the people of Gibraltar and to officially introduce Mr Feetham as the party’s new leader’.
