Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The PDP welcomes the announcement of the purchase of the old Queens Cinema by the Government to convert this into a much needed theatre for Gibraltar. The provision of this was a PDP manifesto commitment and that it is now going to become a reality can only be a positive move for drama, culture, entertainment and the promotion of these in our people and our schools. The location of the new theatre at the old cinema site is far more functional than the old Theatre Royal site well apart from the financial fiasco that particular GSD project turned into.
Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar has very warmly welcomed the statement in Her Majesty's speech to Parliament this morning.
The Queen said:
"My government will ensure the security, good governance and development of the overseas territories, including by protecting the Falkland Islanders' and Gibraltarians' right to determine their political futures."
