European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
To commemorate the occasion of Gibraltar’s first civil Partnership, the Government will be flying the 'rainbow flag' from No 6 Convent Place which was designed by the Equality Rights Group and represents diversity.
As a result of the recent European elections, there have been a number of changes to the MEPs for the South West region of which Gibraltar forms a part. The most shocking change is that Sir Graham Watson, long considered to be a strong supporter of Gibraltar, lost his seat. This was part of a wider tend that saw his party, the Lib Dems, suffer a crushing defeat only managing to retain one seat in the European Parliament.
The Gibraltar Football Association impressed this weekend at an away friendly with Estonia at the ‘Le Coq Arena’ that resulted in a 1 – 1 draw. Before the game, the team was subjected to a 14 hour delay at Frankfurt Airport, which caused them to sacrifice two training session and disrupt many of the players’ hydration and fatigue levels.
Following the expiry recently of the six month period set by the Commission to review the operation of the Frontier between Gibraltar and Spain, the Chief Minister has formally notified the Commission of the measures that have been taken by Gibraltar ‘in line with the recommendations’ set by then in November.
