Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Spain has allegedly insisted that it will take the fishing dispute in Gibraltar to the European Court of Justice, if Britain is not sanctioned by the EU Commission during their visit to the Frontier.
The statement was made by Agriculture and Environment Minister Manuel Arias Canete in Jerez de la Frontera last Friday. Spanish press reports that Madrid insists Gibraltar has violated EU laws by dropping the artificial reef into the bay.
Opposition party, the GSD, has explained that Care Agency Minister, Samantha Sacramento’s previous condemnation of the GSD’s plans for the new Alzheimer’s and Dementia facility is based entirely on room size.
The party notes, ‘this is nonsensical, when it is compared to statements made by Minister Cortes in July’s Parliament that he was satisfied with progress at the new Mental Health facility, where single rooms average a mere 7.5 square metres in size. The smallest room available measures just 5.46 square metres.’
Customs Officers yesterday detained a locally registered vehicle in the Devil’s Tower Road area consequent to officers noticing suspicious activity in the vicinity. The car was conveyed to a Customs area and subsequently searched; this search resulted in the find of 14,400 cigarettes (72 cartons) concealed within the vehicle.
