European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
The Government says the inauguration of the Skywalk by Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, has received significant international media interest. Television footage of the event has been aired on 117 channels worldwide, reports have been published in a number of international newspapers and magazines, and photographs have been viewed tens of thousands of times on social media.
The Minister for Equality, the Hon Samantha Sacramento MP, attended the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Karina Khubch and, Crown Counsel at the Ministry for Equality, accompanied the Minister. The UN CSW is the most prominent entity on women’s issues, takes the lead in coordinating and promoting the UN’s work on economic and social issues for women’s empowerment and is instrumental in promoting gender equality.
Independent MP Marlene Hassan Nahon has said that recent clashes between the Government the Gibraltar NASUWT, Master Service, and now Grand Home Care “have provided a stark contrast to what the majority of voters entrusted the government on when they were elected in 2011.”
Today, the main party set to represent Gibraltar at the XXI Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia, left the Rock. Team Gibraltar will be competing in seven sports, Athletics, Cycling, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Shooting, Squash, Swimming and Triathlon with the Games themselves starting on 4th of April. Gibraltar will compete on all but one of the 12 days of competition.
